An afternoon with Salish weaver Myrna Crossley-Elliott to learn about dyeing wool with plants from the island, with a forest walk to gather dye materials and a demonstration of her dye process.

Apr 12th 2024 - ÍY SȻÁĆEL (good day) a SENĆOŦEN Language workshop

Led by SX̱EDŦELISIYE, LIQITIYE, and Tye, this event offered an introduction to the SENĆOŦEN language, and opportunities for everyone present to learn and participate.

Artist talk and reception for an exhibit of contemporary Coast Salish carving, prints, and weavings by the Elliott family curated by Rose Spahan and Tina Farmilo, held at the Mayne Island Library.

Blessing on the newly planted garden from the HELI,SET Drum Group, unveiling of triptych art installation, community meal and conversation.

With artist’s talk, speeches from our MLA and partner society members, honouring dance and song by the HELI,SET Drum Group, and words and song from J,SIṈTEN Dr John Elliott.

A trip to learn on the land, help with native ecosystem restoration at SṈIDȻEȽ, and visit TEMOSEṈ’s carving shed where the Welcome Poles are being created.

An elder sharing cultural knowledge of the village sites in this place.

Jan-Feb 2023 - Sarah Jim art exhibit at the Mayne Island Library

Curated by Rose Spahan, and including pieces created for the botanical garden and pieces from private collections, this was the first public exhibit by a W̱SÁNEĆ artist on SḴŦAḴ / Mayne Island.

An afternoon of W̱SÁNEĆ art and ethnobotany at the Agricultural Hall, with Ceremonial Opening, unveiling of three Salish designs created by artist Sarah Jim, and a presentation on ecosystem restoration with the PEPÁḴEN HÁUTW̱ Foundation.
